Learning Biblical Aramaic

Thanks to Balshanut , I found this website with introductory lessons in Biblical Aramaic.

You can download all the lessons for free.

It seems to me, that these lessons are valuable, especially if you are not willing to spend the money and buy one of the available grammars (most of them are fairly expensive – the only exception is the fairly old one by Algers F. Johns).

PREACHING GENESIS

I started (yet) a new website. It is called Preaching Genesis.

The idea is to use this site as an aid for those who preach through Genesis and do not have access to some of the resources that I do.

I have been preaching through Genesis for a few years now (I am in chapter 22), and I enjoy very much the learning process (I hope the congregation does too :)).  I will gradually post my notes and slides, when I find the time to do it.

Since it is a bit easier for me, I will probably post some of my most recent files first (like Genesis 22).

I hope to receive some comments, illustrations, and other ideas on preaching from this great and foundational book of the Bible.

Shalom,

Chris

Evangelism and Mission

Without further comments, I am posting this amazing report from a friend who ministers in the Middle East.

His passion for evangelism is clear and praiseworthy.

Dear friends,

Sorry that I have not written for a while.  Everything is going well.

Our April/Passover outreach went very well. We had about seven hundred and fifty orders for the Redemption film in Russian and all have been delivered.  We worked with a number of congregations throughout the country and now more congregations want to get involved in what we are doing, towards which we hope to have a conference on the 3rd of July inviting all the churches to participate.  In addition, we also hope to distribute some good teaching material in Russian by John Piper. Most of the Russian churches don’t really have good teaching so we hope to rectify this problem through fellowship and cooperation. We also want to print in Russian the book ‘Don’t waste your life’ by John Piper and we are in the process of translating another book by the same author into Russian.

JULIUS KIM on CALVIN at DG Conference

Dr.  Julius Kim was a visiting professor here at Torch for about a year.

We really enjoyed his friendship and ministry here.

He was very earnest in teaching us the importance of Christ-centered preaching, and he modeled this in his sermons.

I just found out that he will be speaking at the DG Conference in the fall on John Calvin.

Here is the reason why John Piper invited him:

This is especially for those of you who thought that he was invited because he is good looking! 🙂

The Book of PSALMS

The book of Psalms is one of my favorite books of the Bible.

Here is what seems to me to be a fine blog on the PSALTER. Enjoy!

Creation and Evolution

The more I read articles related to evolution, the more puzzled and amused I become.  Here is a recent article on a new Burmese fossil from Foxnews. The article is a series of contradictions by world-leading scientists about what they actually found. I will let you read it. I find it very funny, because they do not seem to agree on anything! How surprising!

I use this post, however, to point my readers to this excellent site about creation and evolution. It is written by people who have a much better understanding of the issues related to biology (my critique and reading of the  article mentioned above is simply that of a college educated reader with no expertize in biology – I assume that is the intended audience).

The people at CREV are really well read, they know what they are talking about, and they are very funny. I find their analysis of every current issue related to creation and evolution excellent. Enjoy! I would be surprised if they do not comment soon on the Burmese fossils.

P.S. Does anyone have a list (or a link) to certain things about evolution, like things that are not disputed and ‘everybody’ agrees on? I would like to take a look at that.
