TV and Sex – No Surprises Here
Perhaps I should have entitled this post: “Another Reason Why You Should Kill Your Television!” For I have mostly killed mine and the news that I just read (see below) only strenghtens my decison.
I “killed” mine by disconnecting the cable, so I can only watch selected DVDs (and that is not very often since Isaiah came on the scene 🙂 ).
The news that I am talking about can be found here. It seems that “Marriage gets little respect on network TV shows that instead revel in the pleasures of extramarital and even kinky sex, according to a study released Tuesday.”
The whole study is really disturbing:
“The study by theincludes a strongly worded condemnation of prime-time TV, contending it “seems to be actively seeking to undermine marriage by consistently painting it in a negative light.”
Even more troubling, according to the watchdog group, is what it characterized as TV’s recent obsession with what it termed “outre” or bizarre behavior, including partner swapping and pedophilia.
As for references to pornography, sex toys and “kinky” behavior, those are now common on TV, the report said. Visual references to practices such as voyeurism and sadomasochistic sex outnumbered married-sex references by a ratio approaching 3 to 1.”
The Parents Television Council describes the effect on the (young) viewers:
“Behavior that once was seen as “fringe, immoral or socially destructive have been given the imprimatur of acceptability by the television industry” and children are absorbing or even imitating it, the report contends.”
Why am I not surprised (and I do not think that anyone should be) by these effects on the viewers? I honestly appreciate this article and it simply reinforces my decision to kill my TV.
Think about it. Perhaps you should kill yours too!!!
Watching thrash and “bad theology” over and over again, simply breaks down your resistance to what is bad and contaminates good morals. And it certainly does not help to distinguish well between what is right and what is wrong – just take a look around you or talk to your friends.
So I insist and plead with you – KILL YOUR TELEVISION, and don’t wait until after the Olympics 🙂
Blessings and joy,
