Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of His Servant?

Steve Green in Korea

Steve Green is in Korea at the invitation of John Song and our school.  This evening I had the privilege and joy to hear him in concert with Song Jong Mi (an amazing Korean Christian singer) at a Presbyterian church in Seoul.

I must say that this was by far the best concert that I have ever been to.  (And I have been to U2’s Zoo TV tour in SD in the 90s).

Both of these singers were genuine, joyful, and deep.  It is not only that their voices were great and their faces were shining as they sang, but their words had solid biblical content.  And in my experience, this is rare in today’s Christian music.  In fact – I do not listen very much to contemporary Christian music these days.  One reason is that I do not listen much to music in general.  The other (more important) reason is because I do not know any Christian artists that are worth listening too.  Very likely this is primarily due to my ignorance of Christian music and Christian artists.  But – it is also very possible that there are not very many worth listening to.  The days of Bach are long gone, and my feeling is that most Christian artists are copying the style(s) and the shalowness of the world instead of setting the standards as Bach, Handel, and other Christian composers did in the past.

Steve Green is certainly a bright light on the evangelical landscape.  I really had a blessed time at this concert and the same can be said of most of the hundreds of people who filled the auditorium. I have to post a few pics with him from his concerts in Korea in the following days.

Unfortunately – today I also found out some very sad news about Steve Green’s friend and neighbor Steven Curtis Chapman (he was in Korea 2 years ago and I also had the chance to attend  his concert).  As many blogs already have announced – one of his biological children accidentaly ran over (and killed) his 5 year old adopted Chinese daughter Maria (he has 3 biological children and adopted 3 Chinese girls).  See the news here. Let’s keep both of these Steves in our prayers.

Let’s pray that God will guide and continue to make Steve Green a blessing for Korea and the rest of the world, and let’s pray for Steve Curtis Chapman and his family in these very trying times.

Blessings and grace,

Pastor Chris
